The vision of the Educational leader...
Greetings to one and all!
I would like to use this platform to reach out to every teacher, parent and child and every individual who has a dream to see the world being inhabited by loving and enlightened citizens, to share my educational philosophy and vision for the school. I believe that in this great cosmos, every human being is born with a unique consciousness, energy and inherent goodness and has the potential to achieve success. We aim to identify and nurture this uniqueness and make our learners fine individuals replete in skills, adorned with values, proficient in life-skills. I borrow from a John Denham verse to further elucidate my vision.
“ Though deep, yet clear, though gentle, yet not dull; Strong without rage; Without O’er flowing full ”
Yes! Our learners will have intellectual depth, yet they’ll be grounded. They will be calm and gentle but vigorous too. They will be bold without being aggressive and they’ll be loving and generous but not foolishly sentimental. In our scheme of education, ‘compassion’ will come before ‘academic brilliance’, ‘giving’ will be more important than ‘achieving’ and reveling in ‘group success’ will precede ‘individual accomplishment’. I believe that if our children approach life with these goals, academic and professional success will become easy and inevitable milestones in their journey. The whole idea may seem utopian but we’re determined to attain this paradise for them.
We are doing what we have to do for this. We are constantly reorienting our objectives to ensure that our learners become smart multifaceted global citizens. We are experimenting with innovative pedagogies, with teachers and students together exploring knowledge in the classroom using technology. We are changing our mindsets, accepting learners as our equalsand respecting their individualities. We are also enhancing infrastructure to add the best of tech-tools.
We are excited about our task but understand that we have challenges to reckon with. We seek the co-operation of all parents and alumni to support us in our endeavor. We are blessed to have talented artists, dedicated professionals, accomplished entrepreneurs amongst our DLDAV family. I urge them to come forward as resource persons and provide real-life learning to our children. I assure them it would be a gratifying experience for there’s no bigger joy than ‘giving’ in life.

Education Development Program for Classes Nursery & Pre-Primary
The beginning of school in the child’s life is the year of excitement, new discoveries and learning. As the year unfolds it is our constant endeavor to create a home away from home within the walls of the school. The vision of DAV is to contribute meaningfully towards nation building by nurturing the child into compassionate and profound thinker, who has a genuine sense of responsibility and will be leader in his/her respective field. We make an effort to use the immediate environment and environmental assets to enable the child to associate what was unknown to him/her with the known and make the new things a part of his life.
The Early Education Development Program which was initiated by DAV Education Board in June’92 by Dr. Nisha Peshin for children in Pre-Primary (i.e. Nursery to Class II) has helped us to eliminate the burden of conventional style of education, promoted play-oriented and activity based learning, laid stress on developing the cognitive domain of the child instead of focusing on merely cramming and memorization.
The Early Childhood Education Curriculum consists of providing a wide range of qualitatively rich activities designed to assist the complete development of the whole child. Curriculum is, in fact ‘the educational program of a school wherein the learners’ experiences in and outside the school are involved. In other words, it represents the total life of school in which the child is a central factor. The curriculum is so designed that all the potentialities and capabilities of the child are enhanced so as to help a child to learn and develop intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally to the best of his or her individual ability.
Activities such as taekwondo, aerobics, dance, music, water play, clay molding, sand play, celebration of National festivals, sensory play, and patterning are enjoyed by one and all. Our motto is, ‘Participation by all’, during all kinds of presentations.
Furthermore, emphasis is laid on basic skills of communication, numeracy, healthful living, and life skills related to the world of play, work and culture. Value Education is another important component of the entire school curriculum where a child learns basic values such as Honesty, Love, Patriotism, Truthfulness, Sincerity, Love, and Compassion etc. through group discussions, role play, identifying and exploring the various concepts.
The Nursery Wing excels in giving a strong foundation to each child using the Comprehensive Educational Kit titled ‘Child Craft Kit’ as part of the Early Education Development Program. It comprises of interesting assortment of games and play material which caters to all the developmental stages of the child.
The Multimedia CD‘s titled ‘e wiz kid’ for Classes I and II covering all the curriculum areas and reinforcing the curriculum concepts dealt in textbooks, animated backgrounds and animated characters, extensive use of voiceovers and background sounds has made learning ‘fun-filled’ In this journey, we also call for the building of a partnership between the school and home. We lay emphasis on building and strengthening of a learning community wherein teachers, children and parents walk hand-in-hand towards building of a progressive society.
EVALUATION:- Research has shown that tests are not accurate when measuring a child‘s abilities as he/she does not understand the concept of testing. We cannot compare one child‘s ‘score’ with another‘s. No formal tests are conducted as each child develops at different rates and comparison at this stage is meaningless. Thus a child‘s progress is measured by the teacher‘s ongoing observations over the whole year. This progress is compared to his / her own previous development and not to other children.
The teacher records the child‘s progress in the following ways:-
Collection of Work.
Classes I & II
The programme (EEDP) Early Education Development Programme has been designed to help children grow, learn and develop physically, socially, emotionally, morally and intellectually so as to make them, grow individually into a complete human beings.
Children at this stage learn better through direct and concrete experiences. Therefore all our efforts should concentrate on making learning participative by involving children in individual and group play activities, using situations, themes and materials readily available in the immediate environment.
Classes III - V
These classes continue to build upon the foundation set in the initial schooling years. Using excellent software uploaded in the state-of-the-art smart boards, the learners pick up concepts and ideas effortlessly, enjoying the schooling experience. The CCE system is continued for carrying out the assessment of the learners.
CBSE - international
The CBSE has formulated an internationally benchmarked global curriculum: the CBSE-i. This will be enquiry and skill based on individual learning styles in terms of pedagogy and assessment. It will address global needs as well as relate to local issues and local culture. It will carry forward the basic strength of the Indian system of education. It aims to promote critical and creative thinking skills, effective communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills and information and media skills. There is an inbuilt flexibility as it provides a foundation and an extension curriculum in all subject areas to cater to the different pace of learners. Through the CBSE-i, the Board hopes to provide quality which is equitable and accessible.
Login id is created for each student and they can access the CBSE-i portal for study material and other related material.
Middle & Senior Wing
In the middle school Classes VI-VIII, Curriculum and text books designed by DAVCMC are followed. The senior wingfollows the syllabi of C.B.S.E. for classes IX to XII. It focuses on the collective and individualistic role of education - helping each child achieve his potential and preparing him for a global society.
The constructivist approach in which learner is at the center and the teacher a catalyst for creativity is taken up with great sincerity. Also, ‘application’ and ‘skill’ oriented testing is conducted rather than ‘memory’ oriented and the regurgitation approach is strictly discouraged.
Learners of classes V, VI and VII can now benefit from learning a foreign language by opting for German that has been introduced as a third language option. This will give students access to the language and culture of the leading European nation and enhance their career prospects as well.

The school believes that the purpose of life is to live in harmony with the outside world and with one’s own self. It thus lays strong emphasis on holistic education and a curriculum that has a perfect balance between scholastic and co-scholastic. All dimensions-Life skills, Value education, Aesthetic education, Kinesthetic, Ecological concerns and Community outreach–are incorporated in the curriculum with great care and are experienced and imbibed not for any secondary reward but simply for the intrinsic reward of the joy in learning & growing. These dimensions–implemented through well-defined House System, Subject Clubs, Eco-Club, SUPW, Student Council and Editorial Board-become a medium for imparting not just knowledge but values, skills and attitudes and enhance the children’s ‘Self-awareness’, ‘problem solving’, ‘decision making’, ‘critical thinking’ and ‘creative thinking’ capacities. Also, much before the National Curriculum Framework came up with the benefits of inter and multi-disciplinary concepts, the learners and faculty of DLDAVMS, Shalimar Bagh had been using it in classrooms pulling off a miraculous amount of work every single day.
Please have a look at the varied Co-scholastic activities incorporated in the school curriculum
The Science, Social Science, Maths and Language clubs enhance the creative, thinking and social skills of the learners. Throughout the year, these clubs hold special celebrations of their respective subjects that involve all the students of Primary, Middle and senior sections. Learners recite poetry, enact plays, create Science models, brainstorm and debate on global issues, discuss case studies, solve math puzzles and play games.
We are proud of our Computer Club-HASH!
HASH, that makes Heuristic Amenable Savvies Hub, forms a group of intellectual savvies, who are always charged up to learn and discover.
Since it was for students, by the students, we lay the membership to the club open for all the computer prodigies. Only the fittest among fits were given the HASH tag. Henceforth, the idea of setting a stage for tech-enthusiasts across schools evolved. And HASH’13 came into being.
The club organized HASH’14, an Inter-School Computer Symposium in the school premises. The event saw massive participation of twenty schools and nearly 200 participants. The passion and enthusiasm seen amongst the participants was exhilarating. It provided a grand arena to test the E-knowledge of the tech-savvy students. It was a battle of wits wherein students strived for excellence competing in varied events like Quiz, Programming, Web Designing, Digital Imaging, Flash Animation and Movie Making.
The school has joined hands with Indian Environment society and the NEAC (National Environment Awareness campaign of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India) and set up an Eco club in the school. Many noteworthy projects and activities are undertaken by this club.
With a view to include Vedic teaching in our system, the school encourages students to imbibe sublime elements of our culture and civilization. Students are introduced to the rich spiritual heritage which transcends the narrow limits of caste, colour, language and creed.
Emphasis is laid on the practical aspect of morality rather than on theoretical part and all the academic and co-curricular activities go a long way in building up an atmosphere in which the students imbibe, consciously and unconsciously, the time honoured values of life which we cherish the most.
The school has incorporated Ramakrishna Mission’s Value Education programs for self-development, leadership and personality development for students & teachers. These lessons are conducted through the medium of audio visual aids and enable the children to develop the power of mind - Viveka, strength and fearlessness to attain highest perfection and happiness.
The school has also formed an ARYA YUVA SAMAJ CLUB to channelize the potent energies of the youth in affirmative directions. The idea is to involve the young minds of classes VI-VIII in the promotion and perpetuation of Vedic philosophy and to inform them about the rationale behind Vedic traditions in the present scenario. Various Yoga Asanas meant for de-stressing and gaining physical as well as mental health are also performed by the students.
Meet with His Holiness Dalai Lama
A group of teachers and students of our school had the fortune of meeting His Holiness and interacting with him on the imperative need of global peace and harmony.
From an early age, the students in our school learn managerial and organizational skills, to take independent decisions and express themselves because of a very effective and highly functional House System wherein all students of classes VI to XII are divided into five houses namely Prosperity, Unity, Courage, Peace and Integrity. The House – system also fosters a sense of healthy competition and acceptance of multidimensional view points. Each house is under two dynamic house incharges who further appoint a house captain, secretary, joint secretary and a fleet of prefects – 2 from each class for ensuring discipline, cleanliness and smooth dispersal. Various inter house activities are conducted throughout the year viz. debates, recitation, Dances, flower making, Pot decoration etc. which culminate in the cultural extravaganza Abhivyakti.
School Magazine Inspirations
The school magazine provides a platform to budding writers to express themselves. Also, every year, 10-15 students selected as student correspondents get to have field experience as reporters–getting stories & reports, interviewing people and generally buzzing around in the campus on lookout for new ideas!
Committed to innovation, the school has started the concept of Activity clubs. Its purpose is to provide an opportunity to students to participate in new roles that enable identity exploration and also to enable them to learn valuable skills. We believe that with this activity our learners will perform better in the classroom, network better and will enjoy their educational experience more. The selection criteria for the clubs will be intimated to the learners at the beginning of the session.

Speak Smart Drive
A special ‘Speak smart’ drive has been launched to make all learners proficient in spoken English and make them world-ready. The English department carries out this drive from nursery to class X so that learners could benefit from a strong language base and could communicate in English effortlessly by the time they enter senior school.Another important reason for this drive is to provide an additional scaffold to the children coming from an economically weaker section as they were found to be struggling in academics due to a poor language base and no support at home.
The faculty members are making great efforts to make this mission a success. In the nursery and pre-primary wings, special activities are being organized to give a boost to the existing academic program.
At the end of each month, certificates and badges are awarded to children who are consistently speaking in English. A big gold star is awarded to the class in which maximum children are conversing in English.
A responsible student council bridges the generation gap between the staff, management and the student community easing out the differences, smoothing out the ruffled feathers and putting each others’ view points across. They help the staff members to maintain discipline and organize functions.
School has joined hands with two leading newspapers of Delhi–TOI and HT to inculcate reading habit and to increase the general awareness of the learners. Also, valuable journalistic experience and creative writing opportunities are provided to the children through a host of workshops and activities organized by these newspapers.
